So this september DC is relaunching 52 of it's biggest titles and rolling back the numbering on everything to #1. They're undoing the currently established status quo and setting things back a couple years in universe (this means no more Stephanie Brown Batgirl, No more Tim Drake as Red Robin. No more Renee Montoya The Question? hopefully) Women will wear pants, Longtime DC fans will groan in disgust.
a couple of things that have been confirmed are massive shake ups on tried-and-true creative teams, with geoff johns being the only writer staying on his best book it looks like

...why? I thought DC was doing pretty good sales wise, Blackest Night was a huge thing and they've got that whole Batman Inc. thing going. Whatever, it's not like I regularly read DC anyways.

I actually don't hate this, mostly because I'm a new enough reader that I'm not terribly invested in current continuity yet. I DO hope they keep titles like Batman, Inc though....if they get rid of that one, I'll be very sad.

Also, Batwoman #1 had just damn well BETTER be one of those 52 titles. It had better be. For serious, you guys, or I'm gonna be PISSED.

I do really applaud their day-of digital comics release. Ballsy move. I'll still be buying my paper, but I'm glad one of the big two finally made the first big move into digital comics.

While this is true, the big deal here is that DC is releasing their whole catalog *day-of.* That's a small, but very significant, difference. I hope it pays off that DC is finally taking the plunge. I expect Marvel will be following suit shortly, since as you noted, they have a bigger overall digital comics presence for the time being.

This is the stupidest thing I've heard about in a while. Way to completely shit all over years of fans you've had. Is DC really that desperate to relaunch Detective Comics, a comic series that has had consistent issues for about 80 years, which is the longest running comic series. You just want to revamp that? Why? Did the Crisis on Infinite Earths not completely correct everything you set out to correct?

Here's the truth DC, and Marvel, and everyone else out there. The reason not many people read comic books anymore is because you're overindulgent in how much shit you put out there, and then you turn around and pull something like this, which basically tells your fans that what they've been spending their time and money on is stupid and/or not important enough to keep going. Also, the art style has sucked since the late 90's...I want a comic book, not a graphic novel that doesn't contain any artistic detail.

It's relaunching the entire series, from the beginning, which they've never done.

Yes, everything is completely revamped from the very beginning, hence why they're renumbering Detective Comics.

Well...this isn't *entirely* accurate. It's really a 'relaunch' not a 'reboot' according to DC, which may seem like semantics, but it does make a difference. ALthough the heroes will be younger, their essential origins and powers will stand. Also, some of the history of the old DCU will stand as well--the emotional spectrum and rainbow lantern corps, for example.

Relaunch, revamp...same thing in my eyes to an extent. Yeah, the origins will be the same, but it's the intent on their end to say that 80 years worth of story doesn't mean a damn.

If this is DC just trying to start fresh, kill off weird canon and lame retconning, more power to 'em. If it's just going to be another lame, "with the times" reboot, I'm out.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

Bwahahaha, nice find Sathien. So true. (Although I don't mind the delay as much now, knowing why it happened.)

This is what DC needs again, to quell hordes of squalling fanboys, the full "Big 7" Justice League again.

Groan.

I'm done with their standard titles, then. I might check out Justice League Dark (horrible name) but otherwise, I'm totally done with their comics. I'll probably just stick to IDW stuff, I guess. How plebian and predictable. Things were getting great with the Batman Inc stuff and everything.

I've completely sworn off the big two altogether. The Runaways got me back into comics a year ago, but even that just got swallowed up in the mainstream comic shit-storm of awful writing, and nonsensical crossovers, to say nothing of sexualizing an underage girl for the sake of fan-service. I think a massive reboot of DC would be interesting. Get crap out of the way, stop worrying about timelines and alternate universes, and re-build franchises from the ground up with what we've learned about writing in comics over the past century or so.

I'd love to see a company NOT do a reboot, honestly, or do something gutsy like permanently kill off a popular character, never to be ressurrected or brought back because someone punched the fabric of reality or whatever. I'm so sick of them rehashing things for the meathead traditionalists when they could be forging new mythologies instead.
