For a few months now, some of you have been complaining about site lag. Recently, I have been experiencing it myself. I had thought it was because my router kinda sucks, but other sites load much faster for me. The site also loads ridiculously slow when I try to acces it at work.

I am going to complain to Dreamhost, and if some of you could give me testimonials that I could cite, it would be most appreciated. Please keep them clean.

There've been times where I'd try to view threads and it'd take so long I'd say "Screw It" and just close the window, hoping things would revert back to normal in an hour or so. Also, just today the site has been fine so far, except for anyone running gifs in their signatures, in which case they ran incredibly slow, like 2 seconds per frame or so (making scrolling down any thread AltairWTF posted in being hell to progress).

I noticed that a couple of times GIFs really fuck up the scrolling and just slow the page waaaay the fuck down. And at times, the site doesn't load at all or takes a shitload of time.

Sometimes it just takes forever to load a page, and sometimes the connection times out. Also, the gifs cause slow down problems sometimes too. If I right-click them and hit properties, it fixes it, but it's annoying to have to do that for every thread I go to.

If gif playback is slowing down your computer, may I suggest having a computer built after 2001 with which to navigate the internet?

That's incorrect, because I primarily view the site on a Mac and I used to get horrible lags. The pages would rarely load, once they did the cache would update so I wouldn't be able to see what posts were new, and there would be a pause for about a minute after EVERY post I posted. It was horribly frustrating.

It's better now, but I'd still complain.

My computer is less than a year old, so that's not the issue - the server is.

Yeah. Shitty internet bogs any comp down, be it Mac, PC, or Borg.

Once again, if you have a shitty internet, it doesn't matter if you own fucking SkyNet, it still is going to go slow!

This thread is NOT about advertising your computer preference, it is about a universal problem. Stay on topic, Tish.

A little less bias towards me is in order I think...

What's that, someone else "advertising" their computer... if you're gonna send warnings, do it to everyone not just me. Thanks.

He's right. And that's not expressing computer preference as to what brand, that's asking if the site user may update to a newer model of the computer that they already own.

But, back on topic: Is it just server lag, or is DreamHost crapping out?

As for being "on topic", I've never seen a lag on the site, and the gif images are 10x faster on my computer than Valdronius' (same network)... and the same at my work computer (obviously not the same network)... dunno what to tell ya!

I noticed on Macs that the GIFs are too fast. For some reason, Macs can't handle GIF type 2 without speeding everything up to fuck.

I'd say the only one that was "too fast" was JEWs seizure-inducing sig

The site definitely does lag at times. I'm running on a laptop that's less than 2 years old; other sites load fine, I've occasionally had problems with this one though. It's obviously the site.

Jew's sig was amusing and stuff.

Using both my computer at work, and my three computers at home to view this site, there have been times of lag on all of them. There is no usually time this occurs and seems to be at random. But, it is quite anoying and needs to be addressed by the web hoster.

I don't have any lag problems, but I'll sometimes get a MySQL error when trying to access the forums or news section.

I've never had GIF problems. And my browser has a speed cap I put on which made all of Jew's and Murdar's sigs bearable.

The only problems with gifs I might have had came from YTMND.

I don't know if this counts as site "lag", but a few minutes ago, just after I posted my latest VGM, I tried to go back to the Forum Index and got this instead:

I call that a Webhost problem that needs to be addressed.
