I was told that if you do a lot of weight training, you need to do some cardio as well or you'll end up weakened your heart. My Uncle Steve (a phys ed major in college) told me this and my band teacher was a track athlete but ended up having major heart surgery because she didn't really do any cardio before/after weight training.

This came up on a weight training forum I go to, someone linked to a study that was done on it, and none of the weight trainers showed any sings of heart ailments.

Cardio is always good though, and you should be doing it anyway. So, just do it.

running is good for the heart, and hitting multiple parts of the body with a work out.. Also picking up a sport is good, helps with endurance and gives you enjoyment as you do it..

And since you're a gamer, maybe you could play a hand held as you pedal on the stationary bike.

I'm into tennis. I was gonna sign up for the school team (it's open to anyone, regardless of ability), but I missed the deadline.

With regards to serious heart problems, that's probably determined more by genetics than exercise.

Even the most hardcore, dedicated cardio training isn't going to offset a family history of early heart attacks. Unfortunately, I speak with a lot of personal experience on this one (although not me...just yet).

Yeah, if lifting has a negative affect on your heart, odds are that's a problem with your body, not lifting without cardio.

Rycona, why can't you play DDR in Chicago??? Confused

I don't know how the building/apartment we're going to be in is going to be affected by my jumping around on a DDR pad. As it is where I am now, I can't play DDR because the floors are noisy plus the vibrations would carry. I'm just hoping that, when we move there, that won't be the case.

Pardon the slight off-topicness, but how's the Chicago thing looking, Rycona? Any more promising?

Ah, understood... I used to be concerned that the folks below me would be bothered by the noise, until they started partying ALL THE TIME, then I stopped caring! I mean, if you're gonna start playing your crazy hick music at midnight, expect your neighbors to care a little less.... grrrrr stupid neighbors with your hick music!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that my neighbors partying and drinking is a horrible form of exercise, whereas my DDR is a great workout! I mean, both games I own DDR Extreme 2 and Supernova have a workout mode that even calculates the calories you've burned! It may not be the most accurate read ever, but it's a good estimate.

Liquor = bad (for working out...)
DDR = good

Nah. It's just a matter of us getting jobs and saving to move to the place we want to go which has a totally on-topic 24-hour fitness facility and hopefully be able to perform aerobic exercise via DDR. I should have a job next month where I was before but with a different contract, probably Salesforce or TomTom, so that'll be easier to handle, plus they pay more.

Rycona's place of residence also doesn't speak for all of Chicago.

What's even more fucking awesome is the film it's taken from; "Wasabi", one of the greatest action comedies of all time.
