Because he's advocating himself as the possible 1st Black American President, yet he's not descended from slaves.

That's not what this topic is about. The topic is about his or any other proposed candidate's skin color. But if you want to discuss his politics, here we go: If you look at his record in the Illinois State Senate, he is way to the left of mainstream America. In terms of economics, he's been dangerously close to socialism by voting for wealth redistribution programs over and over again. Socially, he's for things that seem irrational to most Americans, such as partial-birth abortion. On top of that, his total experience is a mere few years in a mostly meaningless state senate, and only two years in the US Senate. To put the fate of the free world in the hands of someone so young and inexperienced would be reckless.

I may be a 5th generation Italian, but I can almost read the language fluently, and know that my people came from Sala Cosilina and the Val di Diana in Southeastern Campania near the border with Basilicata. And the only reason I haven't visited the country yet is because Grad School got in the way eating up all of my time, and also my parents recanted, and decided to refuse to pay for me to go back in 2001 after the foot & mouth disease B.S. Besides, I certainly would never advocate myself as an "Italian-American" candidate anyway, because my loyalties are to America, not to a country my ancestors left for a reason.

I didn't know you were a 5th generation Italian, nor was that targeted at you. I only used the analogy because I'm the 1st generation of my family to be born here and I know 2nd generation people who don't know Italian or have ever been there. It's crazy to me.
As for Obama's politics, you're absolutely right. I'm definitely not advocating for Obama in '08 or anything. Although I will say that I see his campaign as the first black president PERIOD, which isn't incorrect. Whether he's descended from slaves or not, the point they're pushing is that he's black, which is impossible to argue against. If he starts trying to connect with the Afro-American community on a "we're all the same" level, then I'm cool with bashing the crap out of him.

I remember Alan Keyes (a black Republican you can see in Borat [soon to be on DVD btw]) tried to ruan for president back in 2000 during the primaries and such. The substitute teacher we had at the time for World History felt he was a shoe in.
