If it's some terminal handicap that will the kid incapable of providing for society at all and is only going to be a burden to the state eventually, I agree. We have enough capable people who need financial help than mental vegetables who will contribute nothing in return.
This sounds cruel, but it's more economically sound. If the family wants the child to live, they should sign some sort of contract stating they will take care of him/her for their whole life and also that they will have preventative measures taken so that they cannot reproduce.

Since I'm all for abortion, I'm not one to question the reason why. A person should have the choice to abort if they wish, but in the name of eugenics of anything else, they shouldn't be forced into abortion.
I'm a big fan of both abortion and baby euthanasia though. If a child would be born with a painful, comfort depriving, incurable illness, then that child deserves to be killed. I imagine the first post was started for laffs, but I do like a chance to promote the greatness of baby euthanasia.

With the Human Genome Project, the idea of eugenics is pretty much obsolete. In 10-20 years we'll likely be able to modify DNA for "proper future citizens."
As an aside I just watched Idiocracy, and some of that stuff is just a little disturbing. Like comparing a redneck family to a well-to-do, intelligent couple; the redneck pair makes kids like rats while the intelligent couple keeps putting off having kids because of the economy, then intimacy issues, then the husband dies and all the wife has is his frozen sperm and sounding desperate to find a man. Both sides also have an overlay of the family tree from their point of view.

First, this was a real good topic thread... 
Second, it seems like such a waste to abort genetically defective children. What's the limitation? What about a child with CF? We wouldn't know if the kid had it till they were born.
Third, I know they've figured out how to get stem cells without destroying a fetus, but it seems to me if a horrible government ever made this a law, they should not let it all go to waste. It's like recycling.

I was of course joking. Tish seemed hard up for an "educational argument" so I thought I would provide it for her.
Besides, eugenics is inherently evil because of the possibility of someone like Khan taking over India and then the world, forcing us to eject his cryogenically frozen body into space. We can't jeopardize galactic security in 2266 like that. Klingon terrorism will be enough to worry about.
