I don't get it. Is a movie from Europe called something different? It's a God damn movie. Why do comic books from Japan get their own titles? They're fucking graphic novels.

There's no reason to call them 'mangas' other than to be trendy. I love how America is stuck in a Japan fad, and Japan is stuck in an America fad. If the two cultures met I think they'd undo themselves.

Speaking of Japan, that shit Akiyama pulled on Sakuraba was lame. I really don't think Akiyama needed to cheat to get the win. I know Sakuraba is getting old, but he's still got some fight in him, that doesn't mean Akiyama had to grease himself up before the fight. There's also some pics of him after the match was over, holding his hand up (with his glove still on), and it looks like he might have been using some metal knuckles, too. Lame.

Yeah, but if America and Japan were somehow smashed together, the universe would explode.

Then tell me? They're drawn, they have word bubbles in them, they're basically long comic books. How are they different? They're the same thing, only with different art styles. Clerks II and Children of Men were both shot wildly different, but they're still movies. One doesn't hop media catergories. They're different genres, but that doesn't mean one's a movie, and one isn't. What are movies from Japan called? Movies. Why do graphic novels from Japan get their own genre? It's people trying to be trendy, that's it.

well, by YOUR argument, they're all still books. jsut different kinds of books.

by MY argument, manga is japanese for comic book.

abstract and realist art is still art, but we call them differnt hings, right?

next tell me that people shouldn't call coats jackets.

official wikipedia definitions:

Quote:
In the medium of comic books, trade paperbacks are sometimes used to reprint several issues of a comic series in one volume, usually an important storyline or the entire series itself. Graphic novels are also sometimes found in trade paperback form.

Quote:
A graphic novel (GN) is a long-form work in the comics form, usually with lengthy and complex storylines, and often aimed at mature audiences. In contrast to the familiar comic magazines, a graphic novel is typically bound using materials of more durable qualities, using a light card stock for softcover bindings or a heavier card for the hardback editions, enclosed in a dust jacket. Graphic novels generally are sold in bookstores and comic book shops, rather than on comic books' original point of sale, newsstands. The term can also encompass a short story collection, or collected issues of previously published comic books republished in a single large volume.

Quote:
Manga (漫画, Manga?) listen (help·info) is the Japanese word for comics and print cartoons. Outside of Japan, it usually refers specifically to Japanese comics. As of 2006, manga represents a multi-billion dollar global market.[1] Manga developed from a mixture of ukiyo-e and foreign styles of drawing, and took its current form shortly after World War II. It comes mainly in black and white, except for the covers and sometimes the first few pages

oh, and as far as peopel trying to be trendy:

Quote:
The word first came into common usage in the late 18th century with the publication of such works as Suzuki Kankei's "Mankaku zuihitsu" (1771) and Santo Kyoden's picturebook "Shiji no yukikai" (1798), and in the early 19th century with such works as Aikawa Minwa's "Manga hyakujo" (1814) and the celebrated Hokusai manga containing assorted drawings from the sketchbook of the famous ukiyo-e artist Hokusai.

trendy in the eightennth century, ey?

Manga as a word for print cartoons, so it's a Japanese word? What's the French word for movies (larvalarva, where are you?)? Are movies from France called that? Nope. They're still movies.

It's trendy to say Japanese things, why do you think so many stupid shits say shit like "baka" and "kawaii"?

Abstract art and realist art is still art. Graphic novels from Japan and graphic novels from anywhere else are still graphic novels. You're comparing apples and apples here.

people say baka and kawaii because they are idiots.

since as logn as I can remember, the asian graphic novels were called manga.

it's hardly because it's trendy.

yeah, cause somebody will say something like " the guys at wal mart are a bunch of dicks" and you would respond with "I would love a bunch of dicks!"

also,

your title was "pornstar extrordinare"

your signature had something about sex in it until your dog died or whatever

what i said carried relevance to the discussion.
