LightsOut download

Above is the download link for my latest program. I took a break from my bigger project over the past two days and decided to program this. I used to have a handheld of it, and upon thinking about it, I thought it was be easy to program, so I did it.

Most of you have probably seen this concept in one medium or another, perhaps on Super Mario RPG in Bowser's Castle.

It can only be played full screen, unfortunately. I appreciate feedback of any kind on here. This is sort of a Beta test... and if everything seems fine, I may have a contest in the near future. It won't be for a while, as I don't wish to interfere with the continuing character battles.

Edit: If you're having problems, make sure you save the .zip on your computer, unzip it fully, and then play. If this still doesn't work, I'm not sure. It works for some and not for others; Hell if I know why.

Is lightsout like a Simon game or something?

And I think the "handheld version" you were referring to was the short-lived Game.com (pronounced game-com) by Tiger (1997.)

Am I right?

I'm having no problem with it and I know other people haven't had trouble. If you are having trouble and still want to play, I can try to throw it up on rapidshare or something.

The handheld had the same color scheme that I used for the program. I had it, I think, about 12 years ago. Maybe I can find it...

Edit: I found a picture of the handheld much more easily than I thought. It was the second image on a google image search. I love google.

I'll throw it on rapidshare and add the link to the first post.

The format of the site has changed from when I last used it... I can't figure out how to upload files now. Any hints?

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have a user folder or whatever on rapidshare and I still can't get anything to work! If anyone else wants to upload it/host it or what have you, please feel free.

Damn rapidshare. Evil

Really nice! It gets some extra points for having that Classic DOS Game Nostalgia™ feel to it. Very Happy

Only problem is, I absolutely suck at LightsOut. But I can't fault ya for that! Wink

I can't unzip it. It says it's damaged or something.

I don't know why people are having trouble. I just tested it again and it works fine for me. I would put it up on rapidshare, but I can't figure out how. If you have any suggestions on how I can get this out otherwise, I'm open to it. The ZIP file is just 1.2 MB, so sending it through MSN Messenger or AIM or something wouldn't be a huge problem, I don't think.

I was going to try to upload the folder so that I could give a link to the .exe, but apapratly it dont work like that.

best I could do is uplaod the whole zip, but that probably wont solve your problem.

Fun game, I feel like I'm in 1997 when most of my games were DOS games on my first PC....

And I'm not good at Lights Out.

I usually think of the limit of my artistic ability as NES, but as the games I make are for the computer, it would be logical to associate them with DOS.

Seriously though, if you ever see any graphics in anything I make that's better than that, either I didn't make it, or I ripped it off.

And thanks for all the feedback. It's nice to actually complete something and have it be pretty solid. This makes me more excited for the bigger project I'm working on. WOO! Very Happy

I can't really say yet. I know what it is, but it's not my place to talk about it. Mainly, I don't want to talk about something and then not finish it. It's not likely with this, but it has happened before. It's not that big, but I'm actually working with some people on it (mainly for graphics) and it should be neat.

Is it a shoot 'em up?

No. It's a side-scrolling arcade-style game.
