As we all know, today is Halloween. Halloween is a reason to dress up as something scary. I always gave extra candy to kids dressed as something that might be scary (unless the costume showed a lot of handmade work, in which case they'd get extra regardless). Sorry little Billy, a Power Ranger is not something that even remotely scares me; the same goes for a 14 year old girl dressed as "white trash" (while it is scary, it's not the same kind of scary as a werewolf or Pinhead). I guess what I'm saying is "Where have all the monsters gone?" I heard that with the hurricanes and such that've happenned people are shying away from scary costumes for things like Power Rangers, Bratz dolls, firemen/police, nurses (well if they look good in it I don't mind), and other real world or media-sourced outfits. It just gets on my nerves (just like some communities choosing to celebrate Halloween on a day that isn't a school night, like having it on Saturday when it falls on Sunday). I just had to rant there, thank you for listening.

For me Halloween isn't about dressing up as something scary so much as it is about dressing up as someone you want to be.

I tend to only dress up as movie characters, go figure Razz

I'm not even anyone scary, but for one day of the year I get to dress up and have fun. That's all I ask for on the holiday.

However, I do agree. Halloween is not about the scares it once used to be. Sad

One guy I know made a Tron costume this year for a costume party he went to. Was it scary? No. But it was still quite possibly the most awesome thing ever.

What about someone who dresses like Michael Jackson? Is that scary?

I think dressing up as John Stamos would be scarier than dressing up as Michael Jackson because MJ was a wildly successful musician at one point. What has John Stamos ever done? Pretty much nothing. So the scary part is trying to figure out why anyone would want to dress up like John Stamos.

The fact that I can refer to John Stamos as Uncle Jesse means he did something.

As for costurmes, I agree it's not really about being scary. In the past I was a ninja turtle (Michaelangelo), Super Mario (hand-made costume using one of those little black combs you get in elementary school on picture day as a mostache...hey, I was young), and a generic Star Trek officer. I haven't dressed up in a number of years cause I was too lazy to fiugre out what to do, but I've already made a New Year's resolution for 2006 to dress up, and do a damn good job, though I'm torn between two choices: the Crow (Brandon Lee style), or Alucard as depicted in the anime Hellsing. The latter would require a lot more planning and be a lot more expensive (and I'd need to wear contacts Crying ). Maybe I should put up a poll seeing which people would find cooler. (I'll link to a picture of Alucard when I have a little more time to go find a good one)

*I* care. Deeply.

As for me, I was a fisherman. Because... I am a fisherman sometimes, and so I already had all the stuff.

Yeah, ok, so I was scrapin' rock bottom. Sue me. Razz

Believe it or not, this isn't Michael Hegstrand. It's some guy dressed as him.

Yeah, I could have guessed that seeing as Hegstrand is DEAD.

I tried valiantly to the the Ranch Tooth for Halloween, but alas it was not meant to be. The frame wouldn't stay together. I was forced to be a lumberjack. However, I did sing the Monty Python lumberjack song constantly and I did contemplate putting womens' clothing under my shirt.
