So the Joads went from town to town
But it was the same all around
They live in poverty and shame
And Californians called them names

Challenge #4: Can you pinpoint the exact moment when my color ink cartridge started to die?

Thoughts: Telling someone to "get out of town" isn't namecalling and I know it. I knew it then, too. Unfortunately, I showed it to my mom and she made me redo this picture in order to make it more acceptable for submission in a high school English class. Originally, the guy with the pitchfork had the following line:

You motherfucking shitheel Okies better get the fuck out of my motherfucking town or I'll fucking skullfuck you fuckers!

Personally, I also found this dichotomy to be rather irritating. Steinbeck used the phrase "shitheel" in The Grapes of Wrath a bunch of times, but I wasn't able to call the book "fucking retarded" in an open class discussion without fear of reprisal. I don't understand how a school system can chastise me for swearing and yet force me to read vile and vulgar books such as Black Boy and Native Son. That's called hypocrisy.
